KZN Association of Family Mediators
ACCREDITATION POLICY (INDIVIDUAL MEDIATORS)
Introduction
KAFAM is a member of the National Board for the Accreditation of Family Mediators. As such KAFAM applies the standards for family mediators in the KZN region, as generated on a national level. The following accreditation criteria are
those set up by the National Board and KAFAM and may change from time to time.
Training
An accredited member of KAFAM is required to have received at least 40 hours of training on the topic of family and divorce mediation, offered by a recognised trainer.
Co-mediated, evaluated sessions
Furthermore, the accredited member is required to co-mediate three sessions with an experience mediator. The experienced mediator will do a short evaluation after each mediation session and give feedback to the prospective mediator and to the
Accreditation Committee of KAFAM.
Annual renewal
Membership of KAFAM is renewed annually and will depend, amongst other things,
on disciplinary record, and payment of fees.
